-- The Founder and President of the Global STEM Education Center & Education Policy Fellow Larisa Schelkin has moderated a panel discussion “Global STEM Education - The Whys, Whats and Hows of Educating for the 21st Century” at Massachusetts STEM Education 11th Annual Summit on Wednesday, October 22 in Worcester, MA. Leaders and practitioners of Global Education from Massachusetts and the nation have discussed the important new developments in public policy and how innovative Global STEM education programs are impacting these developments. Discussion topics included: the US DOE's first comprehensive international strategy in education; the recent Asia Society-led report “Mapping the Nation”; best practices, and challenges faced by school districts; and a non-profit organization leading Global STEM education in our state. -- Global STEM Education Center President Larisa Schelkin and Isa Zimmerman, Chairman of the Board, have presented at the Triangle Coalition for STEM Education National Conference in Washington, DC on October 9, 2014
-- The legendary Dr. Charlie Pellerin presented to the Global STEM Classroom students via "LIVE" session run simultaneously for the students in Mexico and US on September 25, 2014. Dr. Pellerin is a legendary NASA’s Director, Astrophysics who led a multi-billion dollar program for a decade launching 12 satellites. NASA awarded him an Outstanding Leadership Medal for excellence. Charlie invented the Great Observatories Program garnering over $10B for space astrophysics. For this, the American Astronautical Society gave Charlie their highest award, the Space Flight Award. And for the Hubble Space Telescope and for its repair mission that fixed the telescope, NASA awarded him a second Outstanding Leadership Medal, an honor bestowed on less than 50 people (including astronauts) in NASA’s History. NASA then awarded him the Distinguished Service Medal, given “when the contribution is so extraordinary that other forms of recognition would be inadequate” for leadership of the Astrophysics Program.
